Classic Editor

Apraksts

Classic Editor is an official plugin maintained by the WordPress team that restores the previous (“classic”) WordPress editor and the “Edit Post” screen. It makes it possible to use plugins that extend that screen, add old-style meta boxes, or otherwise depend on the previous editor.

Classic Editor is an official WordPress plugin, and will be fully supported and maintained until at least 2022, or as long as is necessary.

At a glance, this plugin adds the following:

  • Administrators can select the default editor for all users.
  • Administrators can allow users to change their default editor.
  • When allowed, the users can choose which editor to use for each post.
  • Each post opens in the last editor used regardless of who edited it last. This is important for maintaining a consistent experience when editing content.

In addition, the Classic Editor plugin includes several filters that let other plugins control the settings, and the editor choice per post and per post type.

By default, this plugin hides all functionality available in the new block editor (“Gutenberg”).

BUJ

Default settings

When activated this plugin will restore the previous (“classic”) WordPress editor and hide the new block editor (“Gutenberg”).
These settings can be changed at the Settings => Writing screen.

Default settings for network installation

There are two options:

  • When network-activated this plugin will set the classic editor as default and prevent site administrators and users from changing editors.
The settings can be changed and default network-wide editor can be selected on the Network Settings screen.
  • When not network-activated each site administrator will be able to activate the plugin and choose options for their users.

It is in the main block editor menu, see this screenshot.

I have no idea why I have to actively add this to my wp installations. Without it I'd be so restricted in wp. Ok. if you have no html/css experience I get why this might not be needed but even if one uses the visual page builder this plugin gives access to the core of web building, the actual page code. Install it even if you are not familiar with coding, please! As good as wp is, we still need good <html> coders and this plugin helps with that.

This plugin was sorely needed. Moving away from the classic editor as the WordPress default was a massive error by WordPress IMHO. This solves it instantly and painlessly.

Classic editor just gets the job done. Wouldn't use it for a complex layout but I wouldn't use Gutenberg for that purpose either. A complex layout should be built as a template using custom fields so that the customer cannot mess up the design.

Agree with everyone. The new blocks editor is CRAP, TOTAL GARBAGE. Almost made me quit using WP. This plugin saved it for me, for now, until WP will decide to remove it because it won't bring any money when others include the BOLLOCK editor in their THEME$ and ADDON$ So this plugin and bootstrap 5 and any crappy theme (all are crap ... black boxes, full of bugs and inconsistencies) I wish though to have more features in the toolbar. I remember the same editor to have lots of features in the past. But for now I know that what I put in I also get.

OMG the Blocks Editor is such an infuriating piece of hot garbage! It makes me regret ever setting up WordPress sites in the first place. NO HUMAN BEING WANTS EVERY LINE OF TEXT TO BE A SEPARATE ELEMENT WITH ANNOYING POP-UP MENUS, WORDPRESS. Thank you for this plug-in that restores the easy, logical, fun-to-use interface we all joined WordPress for. Please don't ever take it away.
