Does it use any external service?
-
Only to show countries and cities: it downloads the free IP to City Lite database by DB-IP (https://db-ip.com) once after activation and then monthly, and reads it on your own server, so no IP address is sent anywhere. License: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) — IP Geolocation by DB-IP. Terms and privacy: https://db-ip.com/legal
To show the icon of the websites that send you visitors, once a day (at your site’s quietest hour) it downloads the favicon of up to 100 of those websites directly from each one, and keeps it on your own server. Only the website’s address is used: nothing about your visitors is sent. Well-known sources (Google, Facebook, ChatGPT…) use icons included in the plugin. To turn it off, add
add_filter( 'onlygrow_analytics_fetch_favicons', '__return_false' );to your theme’s functions.php. -
Can I keep the statistics of the plugin I used before?
-
Yes. Tools Import history finds the data of WP Statistics, Independent Analytics, Burst Statistics, Koko Analytics, Statify, SlimStat, Matomo, Visitor Traffic, WP Visitor Statistics or Post Views Counter on your site and brings in the days before OG Analytics started counting: daily page views, visits, pages, sources, devices and countries. Their data is only read, never changed, and the import can be undone.
-
Does it work with caching and optimization plugins?
-
Yes, with nothing to set up. Visits are recorded by the browser, so cached pages count too, and the tracking script protects itself from being combined or delayed until a click. Tested one by one with their most aggressive options (page cache, combine, defer and delay JavaScript): LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, WP Fastest Cache, WP-Optimize, WP Rocket, Jetpack Boost, Speed Optimizer (SiteGround), Breeze, Hummingbird, Cache Enabler, Super Page Cache, Powered Cache, Comet Cache, Autoptimize, Async JavaScript and Flying Scripts. If visits stop arriving, Tools Diagnose tells you why.
-
What happens to my data if I delete the plugin?
-
It stays, so it comes back if you reinstall. To remove everything, turn on “Delete all data when the plugin is uninstalled” in Settings Data.

0.2.16
- [[feature]] Tools Import history: bring your statistics from WP Statistics, Independent Analytics, Burst Statistics, Koko Analytics, Statify, SlimStat, Matomo, Visitor Traffic, WP Visitor Statistics or Post Views Counter. The plugin finds their data on its own; the days before OG Analytics started counting come in day by day (page views, visits, pages, sources, devices and countries), nothing is counted twice, and you can undo it.
- [[new]] A short welcome the first time you open OG Analytics after installing it: three steps on the visits Google Analytics never sees, why your site stays fast and your data stays yours, and, if you used another statistics plugin, how to bring its history in one click.
- [[compatibility]] Tested one by one with 17 caching and optimization plugins, each with its most aggressive options (page cache, combine, defer and delay JavaScript): LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, WP Fastest Cache, WP-Optimize, WP Rocket, Jetpack Boost, Speed Optimizer, Breeze, Hummingbird, Cache Enabler, Super Page Cache, Powered Cache, Comet Cache, Autoptimize, Async JavaScript and Flying Scripts. Visits count with all of them, with nothing to exclude by hand.
- [[improved]] When the address of the tracking script changes (turning ghost mode on or off in Settings Track), the cache of your caching plugin is cleared on its own, so cached pages switch to the new address right away (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, WP Fastest Cache, WP-Optimize, Jetpack Boost, Speed Optimizer, Breeze, Hummingbird, Cache Enabler, Super Page Cache, Powered Cache, Comet Cache, Autoptimize).
- [[fixed]] With WP-Optimize (combine and delay JavaScript), visitors who did not touch the page were not counted.
- [[fixed]] With Powered Cache (combine and delay JavaScript, or its minifier without its .htaccess rules), visits were not counted.
0.2.15
- [[improved]] Settings Data “Delete all data when the plugin is uninstalled”: if no other OnlyGrow plugin is left on the site, nothing at all is left behind (the shared tables and the site type go too).
0.2.14
- [[fixed]] A new install was recorded as if it came from an older version, so a future notice meant only for those who updated could have shown to it (installs of 0.2.13 are corrected on their own).
0.2.13
- [[new]] Notices at the top of the plugin screens, with the look of WordPress: important news is shown once to each administrator, and a closed notice stays closed.
- [[new]] If the country database has not been downloaded yet, a notice says so and offers “Download now” (it downloads in the background: you can keep working or leave the page) and tells you when it is ready.
- [[improved]] The “Visitors online now” table on the Dashboard shows everyone who is online, 15 per page (before, only the last 10).
- [[improved]] After an update, the database changes of the new version are applied right away, without waiting for the next visit.
- [[improved]] Settings Data “Delete all data when the plugin is uninstalled” also removes what each user’s notices saved.
- [[changed]] New menu icon: the wolf shield of the OnlyGrow family.
- [[fixed]] If the hosting stopped the download of the country database halfway, it was retried every few minutes (now it waits a few hours).
0.2.12
- [[new]] Settings Exclusions: a daily limit of page views per visitor (300 by default). Whoever goes over it is a bot, and that whole day is left out of your numbers.
- [[new]] Bots disguised as a normal browser are recognized by how their browser behaves (no screen, no languages, a fake Chrome…).
- [[improved]] More bots recognized, including the ones that do not call themselves “bot” (GoogleOther, Google’s inspection tool, AI assistants, uptime monitors, security scanners).
- [[improved]] Time on page counts only while someone is there: a tab left open with no activity stops adding time after 30 minutes, and coming back later starts a new visit.
- [[improved]] More accurate countries: addresses sent with a port are understood, Cloudflare’s country is used when the location database does not know the address, and saved locations are refreshed with each new database.
- [[improved]] Locations that no visit uses anymore are removed in the daily cleanup.
- [[fixed]] Visitors on CUBOT phones were counted as bots.
- [[fixed]] Right after an update, the first screen of the plugin could show “Route not found”.
- [[fixed]] Form messages (a required field, “Drag to reorder”…) now follow your site’s language.
0.2.10
- [[new]] The classic editor shows the chart of each post too, in a box on the side.
- [[new]] Reports Times: download each chart as CSV (by hour, by day of the week and the day × hour grid).
- [[improved]] Works with WP Rocket and Autoptimize without excluding anything by hand: the tracking script is left as it is.
- [[improved]] Clearer “View details” window: menu paths and notes are easier to read.
- [[changed]] Pause tracking moved to Settings Track.
- [[changed]] The dashboard widget shows only visits, and a new icon for Tools.
- [[fixed]] With WP Rocket’s “Delay JavaScript execution”, visitors who did not touch the page were not counted.
- [[fixed]] After an update, the plugin screens could keep old styles until the browser cache was cleared.
- [[fixed]] Tools Diagnose no longer warns when an optimization plugin serves its own copy of the tracking script.
- [[fixed]] The table in Tools Diagnose no longer overflows its card.
0.2.09
- [[new]] Paid AI channel: visits from ads inside ChatGPT are recognized.
- [[new]] Websites that send you visitors show their own icon, downloaded once a day at your site’s quietest hour.
- [[new]] Tools Export with the same filters as the reports.
- [[new]] Tools Export: hourly totals.
- [[improved]] Tools Diagnose warns when a cache serves your pages with an old address of the tracker.
- [[improved]] Smaller, lighter changelog labels.
- [[fixed]] Ad clicks that arrive without a referrer (Google Ads on iPhone, Microsoft Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn…) were counted as Direct.
- [[fixed]] Each ad click no longer shows up as a separate page.
- [[fixed]] Cached pages keep counting after you turn ghost mode on or off.
- [[fixed]] Reports work on hosts that limit large database queries.
- [[fixed]] The “Every visit” export uses your site’s time zone.
- [[changed]] Visit details are kept for 18 months; daily totals are kept forever.
0.2.08
- [[new]] Every report has its own layout: Visitors, Geo, Devices, Pages, Entry pages and Sources.
- [[new]] Content report: views by category, tag, your own taxonomies and author. Click a row to filter the whole report.
- [[new]] Times report: when your visitors arrive, by hour, by day of the week and on a day × hour grid.
- [[new]] Visitor journey: click the time of any visit to see that visitor’s visits and pages, in order.
- [[new]] Download any table as CSV, choosing the columns, and print any report to PDF.
- [[new]] Growth per row: how much each page, source or country grew against the previous period.
- [[new]] New filters: site search (what people searched on your site) and continent.
- [[new]] From Content, see the visits of a category, tag or author in one click.
- [[new]] Tools Diagnose: everything that can stop your site from counting, with what to do and a report to copy for support.
- [[new]] A notice on the Dashboard when visits stop arriving at an hour that usually has them.
- [[new]] A log of the page views your exclusion rules discarded, by reason.
- [[new]] Tools Export / Import your settings, and Tools Restore defaults.
- [[new]] Pause tracking without deactivating the plugin, with a notice on the Dashboard.
- [[new]] Visits from comment spammers are not counted (spam comments and Disallowed Comment Keys).
- [[new]] The views counter can wait until a post reaches a number of views.
- [[new]] Dashboard widget: a comparison with the previous period (today, yesterday, 7 and 30 days, 12 months).
- [[improved]] Changelog labels with a cleaner outline style.
- [[improved]] On wide screens, the Dashboard shows four cards next to the chart.
- [[improved]] Unique visitors per month and the sources of each entry page are kept forever.
- [[improved]] More bots detected: user agents that include a web address or an email.
- [[security]] A visitor’s IP address can no longer be faked with a header. Cloudflare and server proxies are detected on their own.
- [[fixed]] Tracking works with Cloudflare Rocket Loader.
- [[fixed]] No more false “REST API blocked” notice when your login session expires.
- [[changed]] Visit details are kept for 12 months; daily totals are kept forever.
- [[changed]] A new menu icon.

- Inside WordPress: views in the admin bar, a chart in the block editor sidebar and on the WordPress dashboard.
- Referrer spam and known bots are kept out of your numbers.

- Campaigns (UTM) are kept forever, by source, medium, campaign, term and content.
- A session is shared by all the tabs of the same browser.
- A bounce is now a single-page visit of less than 10 seconds with no interaction.
- Visits by logged-in users record which user it was.
